Hey Kevin, thanks a lot for that input. I like the thought. Please understand that we are a startup and offering it like Basecamp would mean we have to run and service different versions of the software in parallel, doubling Server Space etc. I think we will consider this for a later stage of our journey with our users. But it’s great and constructive input. Thanks for that!

There is a middle ground there, Patrick. Cloud updates do not REQUIRE subscription business models. Forwarding thinking companies like ONCE (Basecamp, HEY) are offering products where you “Pay one time, own forever.” For new features and updates like you mentioned they still can receive them for free on any 1.x version. For version 2.x users would pay again.
If someone offered you $100k for a standalone version of your software would you say yes? Probably. So how low would you go and still be profitable? $10k? $5k? $1k? Then take that number and see if guys like Adam would pay it.

Thanks for the input Adam. I understand your admiration of stand alone software. We decided for a cloud based solution to offer our users always the newest version with new features and improvements being added in real time instead of asking you to regularly download and install new versions. Real time sync of data – although technically possible – creates potential snyc and versioning issues as you may know it from many tools. Especially with a complexity of dependencies in the data base as we need to implement it with PRODUCER, to automatically connect Storyboard to Locations to Cast to shotlist to Schedule to Call sheets and vice versa. Maybe it looks easy from the outside – and that’s how it is supposed to be. But with a stand alone tool with high maintenance efforts for the user, etc. it would be way more complex, making the tool much more expensive and limit availability to only large entities. We want to offer a solution that every user can afford for 25 bucks a month including storage.

Make standalone software that we can purchase for one reasonable price. Give it the function to allow sync data between all your devices by the following:
1. Using your own personal servers.
2. Offer customers a monthly cost to use Producer severs for realtime sync of their data between their devices. But that data is still stored in their personal computers.

Anything less, and it tells me you’re the same as all the rest.

Dear Yalada, it is unfortunate to hear that you only consider on premise solutions. There are certainly pros and cons to both sides. As you did not get enough information from the video, I would happily give you a presentation if that would help. Please feel free to reach out on support@the-producer.io if you’re interested. Best regards and happy producing! Patrick

Hi Adam, it is sad to hear that you seem to have only made negative experiences with companies who tried to rip you off. We would be happy to show you that there are passionate people, who really try to add value to the filmmaking process based on our own pains that we had to overcome. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve our product, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at support@the-producer.io. Wishing you all the best, and have a great day! Patrick

Also, that video contains pretty much zero information.

They just care about extracting every cent they can, over a longer time.

Make a standalone product of this.
Give us an option to use our own servers or a monthly fee to use your servers for sync.

If you care about your production, you want to minimize any risk to your data. Having it all online controlled by a third party seems crazy to me.
